FLATS, STUDS AND THANGS

Happy midweek Lovelies, how's the week treating you? Hows the weather in your area? Harmattan is here, and its a nice break form the heat; Christmas is here!

Gone are those day when ballerina pumps and other flat shoes were without fun and attitude, these days, they come in the most interesting designs. Apart from being stylishly cool, they are the most convenient and versatile plus they have the loveliest embellishments ranging from diamante to studs to pendants and so on. You can wear flats with almost anything and still turn heads; it's all about the wearer and her carriage.

The festive season is here, so many parties to attend, wouldn't want to break an ankle. Why not consider exchanging those heels for some flats? Its safer, more convenient and equally girly.

Found a few that might give you ideas as to which ones to buy if you don't already have, or if you want to get new ones

VEIL AND HENNA

Hello Lovelies, how was your weekend? Mine was fun filled; attended my best friend's wedding.

I had been looking forward to the wedding for two main reasons being that I would get to wear a veil and do laali ( Henna tattoo). It is traditional for the  Muslim bride and her friends to have the laali done as part of the ceremony. I have never had it done before so you can imagine my excitement when the henna women came to paint us!

FESTIVE FLARE

Hello Lovelies, I'm so sorry for the long silence; I can promise you it is for a good cause. When the time comes, I will reveal what I have been up to.

I hope everyone is well?

I noticed that recently I have been drawn to skirts in all colours and and styles and I find myself wearing them more often. Although I love pencil and straight skirts, my absolute fav at the moment are flared skirt; either in mini , midi or maxi.

As usual, I did some digging around and came to share my findings... Enjoy

I love this skirt cos it's maxi, but just in words. Its actually a mini, the lace gives it a peek-a-boo twist that I find very interesting

Hello Lovelies, its the middle of the week, which simply means we are getting closer to our aims and goals and the end of the year.

Just thought to share pictures of my current hairdo; I don't know what its called, but I call it Bororo hairstyle. My regular readers know how much I love experimenting with my hair. Anyway sha, I walked up to a neighbourhood hair salon and asked her to make this for me.

STATEMENT OF FACT

Hello Lovelies, it's a new week, the year is running to an end and there is the urge/rush to still make the year count. Many of us are still waiting for that big job, the long awaited proposal from him/her, that deal that will bring about the money to acquire that solar powered car, that awesome feeling of knowing we belong to someone special, and the list goes on.

While in the waiting room, it is necessary to look and act the part of that hardworking employee, perfect fiancee/fiance, cool person driving the cooler car or best partner ever. And in looking the part, simplicity and humility, slightly laced with some sense of style is key.

Which is why I want to introduce you to my silent but powerful friends; statement jewellery and accessories. They are the ones that give you that umph and command a second, third, well, even a fourth glance. You know how you leave the house knowing you will slay through out the day, and then someone compliments your outfit and you act all surprised like you didn't know you looked so good? Yeah, we all know the feeling.

I have done some looking around and I found a few statement accessories that drew me in and as usual, I thought to share.

EXPRESS YOURSELF

Hello Lovelies, week going well so far I hope?

While I'm not a fan of labels being plastered all over clothes or accessories, especially when they are knock offs, a little dose of slogan or catchy phrases doesn't rub me the wrong way.

SUNDAY OUTFIT INSPIRATION

I put this look together, seeing as tomorrow is Sunday, and a little inspiration might be needed to help someone out there.

I chose this dress because  it's simple yet very classy without being inappropriate. Would have been fantastic for work because of its colour, but I think the bow makes it a little too dressy.

DIY : BLACK TIPPED PUMPS

Hello lovelies, how's the weekend coming along?

I decided to try my hand on a few DIY projects, one of which I want to share today.

This pair of shoes caught my fancy the day I got it, but I discovered I rarely wear it, and I think its cos of lack of care use, my precious shoe started falling part (to my total dismay). Hence the resolve to have a little facelift done for my pretty beauty.

PRINTS ATTACK

Hello lovelies, hope the holidays are rosy at your end, as it's at mine?

Often times when people talk about prints, the talk is only limited to animal and/or florals, but in the real sense, prints go way past just these few ones . I will talk about some other types of prints I know, and hopefully inspire you to try other types.

Enjoy

SOMETHING OLD

Hello Lovelies, trust you are well. Barka da Sallah to all my Muslim readers

One of the perks of moving is that you discover some things you didn't remember owning. I probably made this skirt like 3 or so years ago, but cant remember ever wearing it. I like to believe it's not just me who makes or buys clothes and don't wear them for a long time.

My French Connection snake fringe necklace is from Asos , sleeveless shirt same as here.

Enjoy the holidays guys!

MY ANITA QUANSAH LONDON (AQL) NECKPIECE

Hello lovelies, trust you've been doing fantastic. I've been a little quiet for sometime now; sober times...

This post is about my Anita Quansah London (AQL) neckpiece given to me by the designer herself a while back. I've had it in mind to wear it for a long time, but as I hardly ever have time to go anywhere else apart form work, I decided to play dress up ( You know how you itch so badly to wear something new? Yeah)

This piece is from her Diffusion line; these are the range of more affordable AQL pieces for the stylish but not too opulent fashion heads.

MY HAIR REGIMEN

Hello lovelies!

I'm going to keep this post as short and precise as possible (its supposed to be a reply to a comment in my last style post) - it's about my hair and the many things I do/ have done it to achieve it's present state.

I'm naturally not who you could categorize as hairy, I'm very far from that. I don't not have a long mane of hair, but I do have a hand full of it. It hasn't always been this way, my hair has always been thin and annoying; couldn't do the styles I wanted. All this changed when I went for my masters; I woke up one day and discovered my hair had gained lots of volume and strength, of course I was excited.

There and then in front of the mirror in my room, I decided to aid the growth by paying more attention to my hair. First place I went to for inspiration was of course Youtube, and boy, did I get a lot of videos and treatments and stories about what worked and didn't, myths and truths. That was when I had the real dilemma - which products to use, how often to use them, and in what quantity.

Salvation came when I went to this Jamaican salon some blocks from my place. The first thing she did was to chop off most of my hair, she said it was weak and tired :( . I wasn't too happy cos my hair was just gaining its strength, how dare she chop it all off? But it was all for a good cause, as she conditioned my hair with some concoction she refused to tell me, but which I finally got to know after several visits.

Before I go further, let me point out that this is my personal experience, which I may not guarantee would work for everyone. OK, so the secret portion my hair stylist used/ uses for my hair is:

  • Egg
  • Castor oil
  • Shea butter
  • Honey
All these ingredients mixed together into a paste (the smell isn't too nice, I must warn) were what she would lap into my hair, cover with a plastic cap and I would sit in the drier for about 30 mins. After about two visits, my hair had bounce, shine, and all the pizzazz you could think of.

Fast forward to Naija, and the weather and all, my hair isn't as lovely as it used to be, but I still do my best to keep it conditioned. For one, its lost its bounce, its always looking too limp, I'm guessing cos of the heat.

My current hair, although it looks like dreads or curls or whatever, it is actually curls; I didn't cut my hair. Just rolled it so it looks really short, I think its appropriate for the weather. Personally I can't carry weaves for  more than 2 weeks, but with this heat, I can't guarantee carrying it for that long, hence my curls.

I am currently toying with the idea of going natural, but don't think I have the patience to pull through; its such hard work. So in the mean time, I will continue experimenting until I finally get to where I am going ( don't think I'll ever get there though, cos I don't know where. Think I'm addicted to changing hair styles).

Have a great week ahead.
